I'm nothing if not a follower...

Hey people who actually still read LJ! In the tradition of my role model Morgan, I'm making a calorie-free musical advent calendar! Click the link and download the song! Maybe you'll like it, maybe you won't. But I've tried to put stuff on here that my friends list might not be familiar with. It was difficult, trust me. And forgive me if I'm unable to find things you don't know. They're also just songs I really like. Also, check out morganalefaye's advent calendar. She's my musical guru.

Click on the picture to be taken to the download page! It's free, I promise.

I put 4 days here, since it's technically the 4th right now. Gotta catch up!

If you hear something you like, let me know! I didn't put more than one song by an artist on here, to make it more diverse. I can tell you who it is, and try to get more of their stuff to you. And I didn't put any really obvious stuff on here, I hope. No BNL or anything. Enjoy!

All moved in finally. Well, apart from the stuff that's still in my car. Found a place extremely last minute (had 3 days to find somewhere to live) and still managed to get out of my old apartment on time. And I just got the internet working here last night, with some help from my bro over the course of about 7 dropped cell phone calls. (I'm out in the boondocks in Haslett, with practically no cell coverage, well water, and dirt roads. It's only five minutes from my old place!) But it's fine. My new roommate is a really nice guy who helped me move all my big heavy crap.

So, in summation: moved, doing well, but don't bother trying to call my cell phone ever. Haha. Texting still works, so drop me a text rather than calling.

P.S. I am still so proud and amazed at the astounding results of the election. I thought Obama would win, but I was still so terrified that he wouldn't, and the rest of the world as a whole would just write us off. Please, America, we've made some major strides forward here. Let's not mess this up. I can't wait for Obama to take office. I know there's really only so much a president can do, but even the effort to get things changed will be refreshing. This is the first time I've ever been really excited about a politician, and actually believed that they would try their best to fulfill their campaign promises. Makes me wonder, though... is it just his charisma? Mind you, a charismatic leader is still a welcome change. But for the first time in a long time, I have hope for the country. I stress again: PLEASE don't mess this up, America! Republicans against Obama: please realize that you don't hate Obama any more than the rest of us hated Bush, and you didn't see us doing anything dumb. Let's all move forward.

(author's note: I don't think there are any Republicans who read my LJ. Haha! Maybe they'll stumble across it, anyway.)

I've seen this e-mail widely circulated, and just want to get something straight.

If you haven't seen it, here's the text.

Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 directly to ordinary citizens of America in a We Deserve
It Dividend.

To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S.
Citizens 18+.

Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child.
So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billion that equals $425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend.

Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So let's assume a tax rate of 30%.

Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes. That sends
$25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket. A husband
and wife has $595,000.00.

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family? Pay off
your mortgage- housing crisis solved. Repay college loans; what a great
boost to new grads. Put away money for college; it'll be there, Save in a
bank, create money to loan to entrepreneurs. Buy a new car, create jobs.
Invest in the market, capital drives growth. Pay for your parent's medical
insurance; health care improves. Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean or else

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who
lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting
back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.

If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of
trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( vote buy ) economic incentive that is being
proposed by one of our candidates for President.

If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult U S
Citizen 18+!

As for AIG, liquidate it. Sell off its parts. Let American General go back
to being American General. Sell off the real estate. Let the private sector
bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.

Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't.

Sure it's a crazy idea that can never work.

But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!

How do you spell Economic Boom?

I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion We
Deserve It Dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC .

Okay... that's all well and good. I'd LOVE $425,000 in the bank. But aside from the deep economic ramifications that are glossed over by this proposal, there is something very fundamentally wrong with this idea.

$85,000,000,000 / 200,000,000 people = $425.

NOT $425,000.

Sorry to burst the bubble.

Yeah... disregard my previous entry. I'm going to have to completely ignore all my great arguments in favor of going on the cruise and pass on S&DV. Things are not going as well as they need to be financially, and the payments would be too much for me. Let alone the plane ticket and money for when I'm actually down there. It really really hurts to contemplate not being there (ow ow owwwww) but I have to be rational. If it comes down to making the cruise payment or paying rent, I don't really have a choice. Not to mention that I just started up my health insurance, which is another $80 a month. Gah. Money sucks, I suck at life, and it's going to suck not being on the cruise. Sucking aplenty.

In happier news, Doctor Who is the greatest show ever. I even changed my icon, see? I just watched the new episode (aired Saturday night in England, won't show in the states for 3 weeks, haha) and it was completely amazing. I love it. Everyone should watch it. Don't bother with the older ones (sorry to anyone who grew up on DW... they're not my cup of tea.) Start with the 2005 Christopher Eccleston ones. You won't regret it.

Dammit... I want to be on the cruise!

duh

apparently my Snacktime was delivered to my rental office on the 13th, but I wasn't informed. I only found this out when I called Nettwerk to complain. So, yeah. I picked it up yesterday and listened to it on my drive down to Ohio. (Oh yeah... I'm in Cleveland for Eddie Izzard!)

I'm going to stick my neck out here and say that I really like Snacktime. There are some songs I could take or leave, but there are some AMAZING songs, too. Call me overzealous. It's fun, catchy, and completely quirky and witty in the way that BNL always is. Pollywog in a Bog (which I heard Brothers Creeggan perform on the cruise this year) and I Can Sing are my standout favorites so far. I've been listening to I Can Sing on repeat in my car for a while. Again, I'm a bit overly enthusiastic about it, maybe. But it's so bouncy and grass-rootsy and the harmonies make me smile. I just love these guys.

I'm booked into a room for the cruise next year, and I'm fairly certain I can pay for it. Not as certain as I'd like to be, but I tend to stress about money like this no matter what. I'll be just fine as long as I can get plenty of hours at the bank, and keep a few days a week at Lane Bryant. I have a bit of extra money right now, so I'll be putting a few hundred extra on it now, so I don't have to pay as much for each due date. That will take a considerable amount of pressure off.

And to anyone doubting the necessity of the cruise amidst my money woes, I say, come on. It's the one thing I look forward to all year, and think that I can take the two jobs, and the pressure, and the stress and worry and all that, because the cruise is in just a few months. I get to see friends who live nowhere near me that I'd never see otherwise, spend time in a gorgeous tropical paradise I'd never visit, and listen to music that makes me forget about the rest of my dreary stressful life. I know it's not a financially responsible thing to do. I know that. But I'd rather be sane than financially responsible, at least in this one circumstance. I'll make the sacrifices other places. I need this.

In other words... see you on the cruise-ah!

I preordered Snacktime at the beginning of April, and I still haven't received it. And the more I hear about it, the more apprehensive I've gotten about it. Is it really so mediocre? I'm worried. AND I got the deluxe edition with the book, so I won't even get a proper CD case? That's lame.
What's worse than having to wake up at 6 to drive 1 1/2 hours for job training?

Waking up at 6, getting ready, and realizing training starts TOMORROW.

Ugh.

But at least I realized it before driving out there. THAT would have been epically awful. I'm just glad Heather said something before I walked out the door. She said, "I thought you said it started the 6th?" And I said, the WEEK of the 6th, because it's a 5 day course. But it made me nervous, so I checked the papers. Nope... Tuesday. It's only 4 days. They told me 5. Oh well. Again, it could be so much worse. I could have wasted the $20 in gas getting out there and having to come back in shame.

I'm going back to bed, and then I'm going to watch Invader Zim all day. I haven't seen that in forever.

So, in closing, I am a freakin' jeenyus. :P

Well, that was anticlimactic.

My computer problem has a slightly-ghetto, may-be-long-term solution already. I stole a spare monitor that was gathering dust in my mom's basement and hooked it up to my laptop. It's a bit weird to type on the laptop and look at the monitor, since right now I have to look directly to my left to see the screen, but that's doable. Much more so than squinting at my dark laptop screen, trying to see where the damned pointer is, and then trying to read anything on the screen. It wasn't working out too well. So, I have a double-screen thing going on for a while. Until I can get a new laptop. But as long as this one still works (knock on wood) I'm fine with the jankety setup.

booh

adding to my pile of stuff going on, my laptop decided that now would be a good time to die. The backlight on my screen went out. So my comp is still running, but the screen is so dark it's practically unusable. Only pages with a white background are legible. So I'm using my roomie's computer right now, and I'm going to see if my mom still has an old desktop hanging around that I can use until I can get mine fixed or (better yet) get a new laptop. Mine's about 5 years old, which is completely ancient for a computer. But that probably won't be possible for a few months at least. I Googled my problem, and it should be relatively cheap to fix my comp if I can do it myself (or I can convince one of my geeky friends to fix it). So yeah. I won't be around the interwebs for a while.

Miss everyone! My life is still pretty hectic at the moment, so I plan on making about a million phone calls as soon as it settles down. I start training for the bank on Monday, which will involve a drive of about an hour and a half each way every day. Plenty of time for phone calls, right? We'll see how that ends up working. I think that also means that I won't be able to see BNL on Friday in Detroit. That's probably for the better, though... right now I'm not sure if I can afford gas to my training, let alone an extra trip PLUS another copy of the CD I already bought. It's too bad. I hate missing the boys when they're in the area. I miss those guys. I'm a tool. :D

Take care, everyone!

So, remember that new job I had? The one I just started last Wednesday?

Yeah... I don't have it anymore. I was 'let go' this evening, at the end of my 6th day working. WTF, right?

Apparently he overstretched things by creating the position for me, and business hasn't been good recently. But seriously, not even a week. Oh well. I guess if he's this temperamental about things, it might not be the best place to work.

But come on! I mean, I could have been looking for another job this whole damn time, but noooo, he asked me not to. So dammit.

Tomorrow I'm going to call about another offer I had before, and see if that is still doable. And I'm going to find out what I have to do to take the civil service exam around here, and see if there's anything with that I can do.

I spent a good two hours at my mom's after work, hyperventilating and sobbing and freaking out. Like, the two jobs I had were paying the bills, and now I just have the one that pays less. That won't even pay my bills, let alone leave me enough money to buy the little dumb things like groceries and gas.

And if I don't find something soon, I don't think I'm going on the cruise. Which blows goats. But let's not think about that right now.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

Jason Plumb and The Willing are performing at the Horseshoe tomorrow night...

and for some reason, I'm really really tempted to get someone to cover my shift so I can drive up to Toronto and see them. Like, 8 hours of driving for 2 hours of a show, with no one I know in the city.

Crazy, yes? Yes.
